Making faces looks at the work of the Maxillofacial Prosthetic Department at the Queen ElizabethHospital in Birmingham. We follow the work of the team as they help patients who require a facial prosthetic due to illness, accident or birth defect. We follow the story of Anna, who had her nose removed due to a cancerous tumour and is now having aprosthetic nose fitted. We meet Frank, who is a young burns victim receiving treatment by the hospital team to reduce the scarring after his accident. The prosthetic team discuss their work and the skills they use as they make a skull plate for a young victim of a fight, and as they renew a prosthetic ear for patient Ron.
