There was not a dry eye in the room when the Goggleboxers witnessed the inspirational story of Bear - Koala Hero.
While the news has been flooded by Coronavirus, we were all in need of a happy, heartfelt story. And in the fifth week of Gogglebox, that's just what our families got.
This week, the Goggleboxers sat down to watch Foxtel's documentary, Bear - Koala Hero, spotlighting an Australian rescue koolie who has been trained to find vulnerable koalas in the bush.
"It's good to know that there's dogs like Bear who are trained to this thing," Mick says.
The Goggleboxers soon meet James Fitzgerald, an IFAW volunteer who has been sleeping rough in the bush since his property and rescue animals were burnt in the bushfires. He doesn't leave, because he knows more koalas need rescuing.
He calls upon the help of Bear to find vulnerable koalas in his area, and sure enough, the rescue dog follows his scent and finds it, laying beneath the tree.
Bear's team at the University of the Sunshine Coast's Detection Dogs for Conservation, host Tyson Mayr and James set a trap for the koalas
"God, it's a lot of trouble they go to," Keith says, but his wife gives the right answer when she says, "We've hardly got any left."
The koalas, a mum and her baby are rescued individually before being reunited - which leaves not a dry eye in the house.
"Oh wow, that's beautiful," says Patrick Del. "Bear saves lives," Isabelle adds.
Before the documentary ends, the Goggleboxers find out that that the mother koala is pregnant with another joey.
"Lucky they got her because can you imagine, if she died, the baby she's carrying would have died and her newborn would have died, too," new mum, Sarah Marie states.
"These people restore my faith in humanity," Chantel says.
Bear is one of the few dogs in Australia who has the incredible skill of finding koalas in need, purely by scent.
"Wow, we need more dogs trained like Bear," says Isabelle.
Every Goggleboxer was deeply touched by Bear's inspiring story, with Matt Dalton and Isabelle insantly reaching to donate to Bear's cause.
"I feel like donating to Bear," says Matt. "I'm doing it now," Isabelle adds.
