Selling Houses Australia

Episode Guide

DIY Disaster

Series 5 · Episode 7

Spencer and Claudia have been trying to sell their half renovated weatherboard cottage since 2008. Their home improvements came to an abrupt halt five years ago when they tragically lost a child during pregnancy. Unable to face finishing the project, and desperate to escape the unhappy memories, Spencer put out a hand painted ‘for sale’ sign and waited. It quickly became obvious no one was going to buy the half renovated cottage for the $700,000 Spencer and Claudia wanted, so Spencer picked himself up and tried to finish the project single-handed. Spencer is a painter and musician, not a builder, and didn’t realise he needed council permission for major alterations, like taking out a wall and building a new deck. To make matters worse, the work he has done doesn’t meet building codes. The only way to get the cottage sold is to fix up Spencer’s bodged alterations so they comply with council regulations and finish all the outstanding jobs.

Love this show but I'm curious as to why Shayna chose such modern art in a heritage house. This is not a criticism but I felt it didn't work so well.
