Sarah Richardson tackles the renovation of her own weekend getaway in Sarah’s Summer House. Most known for her city-centric solutions, Sarah bobs her way through the renovation of her own off the grid stress-buster on an island 17 miles off shore. Over the course of the series, Sarah and her crew brave everything from the season’s first ice to shipping issues and black-fly season, gradually transforming her cherished getaway to the nirvana everyone’s after. Originally a bachelor shack on a tiny island, Sarah’s husband purchased the place a number of years ago and has since kept it as off the grid as possible. A combination of solar, wind and propane made it work for them as a couple. Now with one child and another on the way, this place has got to grow up, yet hold true to its original mission statement. It’s got to be rustic, relaxing and at one with the stunning scenery in which it is enveloped. Sarah untangles the people and processes to renovate right in front of your eyes. Tip after tip on handling an out-of-town reno without having an out of body experience. Tommy Smythe, Sarah’s cohort on city projects, takes to the choppy waters to help.
