Reno Recap: Brunswick, VIC

Partners, James and Brendan can agree on everything... except where they want to live. Despite extensive renovations over the years, Brendan thinks the pair can find a better lifestyle elsewhere, while James is very fond of the home, and believes a renovation is the key to a long future in the home.

The three-bedroom home in Victoria's Brunswick had an open-plan living and dining area, kitchen, bathroom and large garage at the back of the house. Brendan initially bought the home for investment purposes back in 1996 when it was worth $130,000. Today, pre-renovation, the home is worth $1.1million.

Reasons to love it

Brunswick is a trendy area with lots of urban lifestyle options, and the pair are keen to stay close to the city. They also have a lot of history in the home, and the bones of the home are good.

Reasons to list it

With only one bathroom and a lot of guests visiting from overseas, James and Brendan need more space, as well as a suitable home office for Brendan to work in that doesn't make him feel like he's always at work.

Before

Neale's design idea

For $150,000, Neale and his team had a very reasonable budget to transform the home. This included separating the home office from the bedroom, a master ensuite, separate laundry and a second bathroom.

To do that, team 'List It' were tasked with swapped the living and dining rooms, removing the dead archways, and transforming the garage into a new master suite for James and Brendan.

Andrew's pitch to sell

For $1.5 million, Andrew did have a challenge on his hands.

First up in Fairfield, less than ten minutes from Brunswick, was a four-bedroom, two-bathroom period home with open-plan living, a huge master suite with plenty of space. However, James wasn't sure on the area and the home was over budget, with a guide of $1.7 to $1.8 million.

Next up, Andrew showed the couple a four-bedroom, two bathroom home in Brunswick. Dubbed by Andrew as 'the house of options', this home had space and maybe too many rooms for James and Brendan. However, upon hearing the guide was $1.48 to $1.6 million, the pair were quite impressed.

Finally, James and Brendan saw a home in Fitzroy, arguably Melbourne's trendiest suburb. A unique, five-bedroom, three-bathroom property had a commercial feeling about it, but the couple absolutely loved it! Moreso when they found out the price guide was between $1.55 million to $1.65 million.

After

The verdict

After the amazing renovation, the Brunswick home of James and Brendan was worth $1.5 million. With that in mind, and the Fitzroy property within their reach, the couple decided to 'List It'!
