Love It Or List It Australia

Reno Recap: Ashmore, QLD

Empty nesters, Craig and Belinda have enjoyed many happy times in their Gold Coast home. As Craig's job in the army moved the family of five around the country, this property is where they eventually put their roots down. But now the kids have flown the coup, so should the couple downsize?

The four-bedroom, single-level home has a master bedroom with ensuite, bathroom and toilet, a study nook, laundry, dining room, formal living area, kitchen and lounge room. Before renovating, the property was worth $610,000.

Reasons to love it

Belinda's emotional connection to the home stems from the fact that it's the only property the family has ever put roots down in.

She likes the space in the home and wants to preserve it for when her family and friends come to visit, so they can all be together.

Reasons to list it

Craig believes this house is great for a family and is too big for only two people to live in. There's also a lot of maintenance, so he's constantly doing chores around the property.

After a recent health scare, Craig has been taking stock of his life and wants a fuss-free lifestyle, so is looking to downsize.

Neale's design idea

For $75,000, Neale and team 'Love It' planned to improve the outdoor area with a better connection to the house.

Inside, opening up the living areas, bringing in more light, creating a family-friendly flow and updating the kitchen was also on the team's priority list.

Andrew's pitch to sell

Team 'List It' was tasked with finding the couple a new, smaller townhouse or villa near the water, with a minimum of three bedrooms for $850,000 to $900,000.

First up, Andrew showed the pair a waterfront home on the canals in Mermaid Waters valued at $875,000. With three bedrooms and two bathrooms as well as access to a pool and tennis court, the property was still too cramped for Belinda.

Next, in Burleigh Heads, the couple saw a three-bedroom home with water views and an amazing, private master suite with huge wardrobe and ensuite. At $880,000, it was edging towards the top range of their budget, but it was the traffic noise that was a deal breaker for the pair.

Lastly, in the boating suburb of Paradise Point, the couple saw a three-storey, three-bedroom townhouse with two living areas and top-notch facilities on the market at $880,000. Belinda's head was turned with this property, saying she liked it a lot.

The verdict

Post-renovation, the Ashmore property was valued at $775,000. Despite being genuinely impressed by the renovation, Craig and Belinda decided that with the value gain on their property they would 'List It'! The couple are still on the hunt for their new home.
