Before they were part of a Gogglebox trio with Sarah-Marie, they'd already formed a beautiful bromance. Here, Gogglebox pals Matty and Jad reveal what makes their friendship so very special.
Tell us about how you very first met.
Matty: "We both were in our very early 20s, working in Sydney’s notorious clubbing scene, Jad was running some clubs in Kings Cross and I was running clubs on Oxford St. On my nights off I used to head to the Cross and Jad used to head to Oxford St. We gave each other the professional courtesy of allowing each other into each others clubs without lining up or paying entry and that’s where it all began. I don’t think we became good friends quickly, but we had so many mutual friends that it was only a matter of time."
Jad: "We became good friends, once Matt moved to Melbourne and I joined a few friends (who were also Matt’s friends) on a boys trip there, Matt was the local and hosted us at a club down there and we had one of the best nights partying all together, and that’s when the bromance began."
Matty, what is it about Jad that makes him such a good friend to you?
Matty: "Jad will always go out of his way to help Sarah or myself out. It’s the Lebanese way, but Jad always will lend a hand when we need him, offering whatever he can to help. I can count on him and that’s important."
And how about you Jad? What do you appreciate most about Matty's friendship?
Jad: "Matt always is there to give me honest advice through hard times, whether it’s women or business, I know I can trust him to give me an honest answer, not just the easy answer. It’s definitely helped me make some important decisions in my life."
When are you most likely to rely on each other's friendship?
Matty: "Jad has two successful businesses. He knows how to work hard and hustle to get himself in a good position. He is my go-to guy for business related questions and contacts, he is great at opening doors and opportunities."
Jad: "Matt is my relationship advice guy for sure! He always gives me sensible advice when I’m not thinking logically, calms me down and makes me think about the situation in a different way. he is married to a Lebanese woman, so he has some solid experience."
What do you most enjoy doing together?
Matty: "We'd both have to say canyoning in summer. Despite getting lost in a Blue Mountains canyon overnight last summer (which was terrifying), it is still the most rewarding, team building, incredible way to spend our weekend. Nothing brings two mates closer together than jumping off cliffs, swimming through caves and generally keeping each other alive in a remote canyon."
Jad: "And we share laughs together most nights on the couch, with most of Australia watching, it doesn’t get more special that."
