Our special guest editor Andrew Winter reveals secrets from the new series, the art of convincing someome to 'List it' and what he really thinks about co-host, Neale Whitaker.
It's so great to be back for the second series of Love It Or List It Australia. The first series was so much fun to film and there's so much amazing real estate is on offer - but Neale, well, that's a different story!
I tried to get an alternative host, but no one would do it for free! So, sadly he’s back too.
I will say he’s very good at his job – he gets a lot of stick from me and he puts up with it all. And, it's good that on this show, everyone gets to see the real Neale because he’s not a judge. In saying that, I do think it's him that's got the easy job out of the two of us.
I’m always delighted when someone says they want to 'List It' and I quite enjoy the challenge of finding fantastic homes to show homeowners that the grass can be greener on the other side.
One particular challenge from series one I remember fondly was Jess from Coorparoo in Queensland. This woman was not moving for anything - not for love or money.
Jess was from a gorgeous family and I think she thought she’d just go along with the television programme to keep her hubby happy and get their house renovated.
She had no intention of moving at all - but in the end, it was her who pushed the family to move!
What you didn’t see on camera was when we went to the second home. We looked through it at lunchtime and while we were on our break, Jess and her husband went to the real estate agency to put an offer on it, but they were too late. That’s how much they were suddenly turned.
Series two has been equally rewarding.
There have been so many highlights so far! We’ve done two Brisbane stories with families who are talking about upgrading to the forever family home.
Looking in the inner-city Brisbane suburbs is an absolute joy. The real estate around these areas is just stunning! Absolutely beautiful. As a real estate addict, it’s been a dream for me.
It's not all easy work for me. Getting people to list their homes and move out of their freshly-renovated property is a huge undertaking, and one I don't take lightly.
How do I do it? It’s all about the power of suggestion. Rarely can the people on the show buy the home they’ve seen because of time - remember, these are live listings and everything we show them is on the market. But, they need to get back home and get their place finished… so my part is all about showing people what’s out there.
Essentially, I am out there convincing people to move who don’t really want to. Sometimes its bloody obvious and they are resolute in their decision – but then again that was Jess in Coorparoo – so you never know!
