How to create flow using colour

This house in Guildford was like one big box of chocolates - you never knew which colour you'd get when you walked into each room.

Different coloured feature walls enclosed by bold trims gave the home a boxy, disconnected feel.

Here are my tips on how you can still use colour in your house, but create flow and consistency throughout.

The key is to stick with the same colour family. In this home in Guildford, I’ve used Taubmans' “Silvertone Grey” through the entire lower level. This created a sense of connection between all the rooms.

If you wanted to add a feature wall, use the same colour scheme, rather than a contrasting colour. You can try the same technique on a wall's trims.

I opted to use “Catwalk”, which is just a touch lighter than the walls. Sticking to the same colour family works wonders, whether you’re working with warm or cool colours.

With its new harmonious colour scheme, the whole downstairs area felt open and spacious.
