Hamilton Japanese Queenslander, QLD

Series 7 · Episode 9

Queenslander Steve Minon has a fascination for things Japanese. The ex-advertising guru owns a string of successful Japanese restaurants and visits Japan regularly. He fell in love with the work of an iconic Japanese architect called Yo Shimada after stumbling across a house he designed in Kobe. Before he even bought his land in Brisbane he contacted Yo Shimada to ask if he would design a house for him. Now four years on and after several visits to and from Japan, Steve's house is about to begin. It will be a 2 storey light weight house on stilts thanks to the sloping block. It will have high ceilings but no internal walls just sliding glass doors. There will be a concrete slab and external concrete stairs, timber decks and internal stairs made from galvanized steel.
