I often try and be open minded regarding modern design and practacality but the East Melbourne property blew me away, sustainability, energy efficiancy for 1 occupant? In my opinion I thought the property looked absoulutly rediculous, I know the area well and it looked like a square peg in a round hole. In my construction experience it could have been designed and built premodular out of Shanghai for 60k (landed haha) with the same effect.
Hats of to you Ralphie for having a crack , each to their own, cheers.

How can Grand Designs Australia continually spruik the virtues of sustainability when each and every program since the first series showcases cashed-up owners replacing perfectly habitable homes with new buildings? Surely truly being sustainable would see these owners being satisfied with the properties they already own, rather than expending yet more consumables and energy manufacturing materials for a new build. I am all for innovative design and a program that shows the challenges of budget, space and logistics, but please stop stamping these builds as 'green'. The true Grand Designs' are the Callignee house and the bush home near Darwin - adversity, challenged budget and emotional and physical might. If I hear the word sustainable one more time ...
