Cottage Point House

Series 1 · Episode 8

Drew Muirhead is a self employed entrepreneur and man about town. He’s building a Balinese resort style mansion in leafy Cottage Point. Not one to do things by halves, Drew’s mansion will have Balinese Pavilions, an infinity pool, its own nightclub, five bedrooms, four bathrooms and a steam room. It all faces a private beach with boatshed and speedboat. The biggest battle for Drew, who is project managing the build – is the steep sloping block and access. What a beautiful house. Fantastic use of materials and gorgeous outlook. Drew has done an amazing job. Apart from issues already raised, bushfires would be a worry (especially the drive to/from Cottage Point). Ashame the house wasn't built closer to the waters edge. The price tag seems very inflated when taking into consideration land value and build cost.
ps love the patternisationing.

Just watched Grand Design Australia with this episode of Drew building a Balinese resort style mansion in South Africa. Oh My GOSH, what a beauty Drew came up with. His energy excited me so much. Peter your sentiments were SO TRUE when you said that Drew's a fighter. There will always be haters and I'm a witness to that. Drew followed his dream and what better to see your dream realized than to defy those obstacles to achieve what you set out to do. I bet you the haters would've NEVER been able to see this through! Besides what he's been through, this experience teaches his boys a lot about their dad's will-power and me, a lot about how to look into the face of adversity. So here's to your grit Drew! I love the home, but more your never say die attitude! YOU DESERVE ALL THE BEST OF GOOD FORTUNE COMING YOUR WAY!

Just for the record. I am in the second stage of a 3 stage process of building a house with exactly the same challenges as Drews (with far worse access). The truth is, that every build has its good points and bad points, mine included. I love Drews house and nobody appreciates what he has gone through to get it more than me. In response to an earlier comment, real estate records reveal that he paid $1.7m for the block in 2010. If some one pays near the $8m asking price then expect to see an influx of development at Cottage Point (Australia, not South Africa).

Make that, last sold for 1.7m in 2005.

Saw it on the internet as "Bora Bora House Cottage Point Sydney Australia" a six star luxury holiday home for rent. I think it's still owned by Drew and he is obviously still hanging in there. I wish him all the best and I hope he can hold onto it.
