With a marriage spanning 34 years, Lee has been through it all - especially her husband's jokes, who she says can never get them right. Here, Lee shares a glimpse into her fun-loving relationship with Keith, and why it's always important to remember the simple things in life.
"When Keith met my dad they hit it off, and it was then I knew he was the one for me.
Keith is a very kind-hearted person and will help anyone, anytime. He takes people as they are. He's a fantastic father and husband. I’m a very lucky woman, but I’d rather have him guessing on that. No need to give him a big head!
We've been together for more than 40 years, so I'm used to being on the receiving end of Keith’s puns, but he still can’t remember any jokes properly.
While he certainly has a way with words, he sometimes has trouble pronouncing certain ones. “Testosterone” is a classic, but the one that stands out is T-Rex, as the word he is trying to say is Tourette’s. He also has trouble remembering 'tiramisu', and the only way Keith can get it right is by saying, "tie up my shoe."
Our favourite show to watch together is Survivor, The Chase and the news, but as Keith is deaf or as he puts it, has “selective hearing”, we will be watching a show and he will keep asking me, “What did he say?” Or, he'll think they said something completely different to what was said, and this absolutely drives me crazy.
When we're not watching TV, Keith likes to read books, but the problem is that he leaves them laying around the house, even though I’ve asked him to put them away. He's getting better, but as for his jocks and socks - they are still on the floor where he left them.
While these things would make my life easier, the important things that make a long and happy relationship is trust, honesty and communication. And, the golden tip is to never go to bed upset with each other.
Every now and then, it's important to make time to relax and unwind. For me, my favourite thing to do is for Keith and I to jump in the car and head to the country for a few days, just the two of us."
