Gogglebox: Keith's tips for a happy marriage

After 34 years of marriage, Keith shares his golden rules for a long and successful relationship.

Keith and his wife, Lee have been part of the Gogglebox family since the beginning, making us laugh each week with their hilarious banter and sharp wit. Sharing two children and a marriage spanning over three decades, Keith and Lee are the epitome of relationship-goals and we want to know their secrets. As a man of many words, Keith reveals his favourite go-tos for keeping his bond with Lee strong - take note.

Keep the spark alive

After more than three decades of marriage, it's important to spice things up. Keith uncovers the number one move that he swears by: "Having a single rose in my teeth while being naked and saying 'Happy Valentine's Day'."

If that still doesn't do the trick, Keith recommends incorporating some housework to really get those loins burning. As he divulges, "Vacuuming in the nude always puts a smile on her face." What a treat!

Communication is key

It's widely known that the key to a healthy relationship is communication. Talking through your problems and sharing your perspective is a great way to balance the relationship - at least, that's what most people think. In the event of an argument, Keith reveals his fool-proof strategy. "What disagreements? Lee's always right," he tells.

It's all about spontaneity

Just because you've been living together a lifetime doesn't mean you can stop with the surprises. This certainly rings true for Keith, as he proudly reveals the little things he does to impress his wife: "Eating dinner without spilling food on myself, eating ice cream without dropping it on my top, and not spilling beer on the couch."

But when the impressive act of feeding yourself without causing mess doesn't cut it, Keith says he surprises Lee with a dinner date at her favourite restaurant. All hope is not lost.

Recite your mantra

Some people cultivate their happiness living by a certain phrase or mantra, and Keith is one of those people. The council worker admits that he has an expression that resonates deeply with him, and has proven to work for him for the last 34 years. The old adage 'Happy Wife Happy Life' may be generic, but to Keith it's a way of life. "It's my mantra!", he says. "Happy Wife, Happy Life, Happy Keith!"

Support one another

While Keith remembers stressful moments raising their children and working complex hours, he admits it was all worth it. "We wouldn't change a thing as it has made us, and them into what we are now as a family," he says. He also confesses that a bit of comic relief never goes astray, and if we've learnt anything while watching Gogglebox, we believe him. "Lee and the kids could always have a giggle at my antics," he quips.
