Gogglebox: Nana Silbery's words of wisdom

What would your weekly Gogglebox session be without the matriarch of the Silbery family sharing her sharp wit and hilarious dry humour?

Emmie Silbery is known for her perfectly timed commentary and winning poker face. Her cheeky insights keep daughter Kerry and grand-daughter Isabelle on their toes, erupting in laughter at her casual candour. Here are some of Emmie's words of wisdom.

Travel tips

The Silbery's are watching a travel show where the hunky host plunges into the ocean for a quick wash, much to Isabelle's delight. However, Emmie is not as equally impressed. With a scornful look, she offers some advice to the host. "Take your pants off and wash yourself properly."

Take her out

While watching the dating show, Take Me Out, Emmie locks eyes on the young bachelor who is dressed in his traditional Islander clothing of - well... not much.

Faced with his sculpted body, Emmie shares with her family, " I wouldn't mind going out with him, it'd be nice! Sitting somewhere on the Gold Coast having dinner with him."

The bachelor has just finished his performance, which mainly consists of showing his muscles and flexing his pecs. When the host asks the audience if they liked his routine, Emmie quickly replies, "Yes!"

Tyred out

It's The Bachelor finale, and the country is about to find out who the final contestant is. The young woman is just about to step out of the car to reveal her identity, and as her feet touch the ground, Emmie can't hold it any longer. "That tyre's flat at the back." Good spotting, Emmie.

Next, the bachelor, Nick Cummins takes his finalist to the beach to chat but Emmie has other ideas. "I like him. Take your clothes off and go in the water."

Emmie tells it like it is

The women are watching Bride and Prejudice when a father of his engaged daughter is providing his views on same-sex marriage. As a deeply religious man, he clearly states his disapproval of gay marriage and his daughter's upcoming wedding to her fiancee. While Kerry and Isabelle look disappointed, Emmie offers some advice. "You oughtta go and be educated, mate."

On the prowl

Host and journalist Jenny Brockie is leading a discussion on Insight about dating over 60, and a guest speaker catches Emmie's eye.

"He's alright!", Emmis declares pointing at the TV. The 79-year-old man, Jim, says that since his wife died, he's now looking for an intelligent woman who he can spend his time with. An idea springs to Emmie's mind:

"Aw, he's cute. I wonder how long ago they made that." "Why? Do you think Jim won't be available?" Kerry asks. Jenny then asks her guests, "How important is sex in this scenario?" Emmie is quick to reply with a cheeky smirk:

"I'd rather not answer."
