Matt Dalton faced a terrifying cancer scare last week, after viewers spotted an unusual lump on his neck.
The father-of-two has spent the last seven days undergoing medical tests when several fans of the show contacted him to say they had noticed a suspected growth when the LifeStyle show went to air.
Speaking to Lifestyle, Matt reveals, "After the show I received a few Instagram messages from nurses and doctors who were concerned when they saw I had a bit of a lump on the left side of my neck."
"So my daughters, who received those Instagram messages, were very upset," he explained.
Matt, who says he feels fit as a fiddle, was surprised by the discovery but quickly went to his GP to seek medical advice.
"Being a mature man, doctors and I don't normally see each other much," he says.
"But I got hammered by my kids and wife about getting it checked out, because life without me became a discussion around the dinner table," he adds
After a visit to a GP, Matt was advised to get a scan and spent a worrying few days wondering what was wrong with him.
"I must admit, it was quite daunting because I thought it was a tumour."
One of the messages Matt receieved
"The nurse asked if I had any pain, but I explained it was because viewers noticed the lump on TV."
"They checked out my neck thoroughly with an ultrasound.
"But the thing is, the nurse said 'Oh it's all normal', but then she brought a colleague in," the 52-year-old continues.
"I started to get worried and I'm not usually a stressed-out kind of guy, but when you have multiple people coming into the room to check on your glands it can be a bit nerve-wracking."
Things were so intense, Matt started to envision his daughters Millie, Holly and wife Kate living a life without him.
"I've never panicked more in my life. I was writing my obituary, but anyway the owner of the imaging place is a mate of mine. I asked if he was working and so they brought him in to check me out too".
Matt tells LifeStyle that the lump could be because of swollen glands, particularly as he has been stressed recently.
"My mother is in hospital and she's very ill," he says.
"And my dad has had to stay home and not visit her because of COVID stage 4 lockdowns - they've been married for more than 40 years so it is hard."
He adds, "I'm 98% sure I'm Ok, but I have a follow-up appointment shortly. The doctor will give me a formal report on Friday, and I'm very hopeful that's all clear."
Matt also reveals that he understands it was a worrying tme for the whole Dalton family and he is incredibly grateful that Gogglebox viewers alerted him to the problem.
"On the show we're on, some people truly do see us as companions and they have absolutely got your back," he says.
"There is so much social media hate going on usually, but it's wonderful to see that these people are genuinely concerned about me. And I'm so grateful for that."
Gogglebox Australia airs Wednesdays, on LifeStyle at 7.30pm.
