As the third season of Escape to the Chateau approaches, we look at five times Angel Adoree and Dick Strawbridge won at relationships.
Angel and Dick are a dream team combining their impressive skillset to renovate their 45-room, five-story French castle. Angel, an ex-graphic designer, author and head of retro tea party company, Vintage Patisserie, partners with her husband Dick who can also be called Lieutenant-Colonel Strawbridge, due to his MBE. He's also an engineer, chef, and environmentalist - but the most impressive thing about these guys is their unwavering support in each other to fulfil their shared dream. Here are five of their best couple moments:
#1 The Wolf
While the castle took up most of their time, the couple always made sure to allow time for each other. With Dick busy looking after the construction side of things, Angel secretly designed a wedding gift for her husband that would add to the character of the chateau. Legend has it that the region's last wolf was shot from a window of their chateau, and Angel couldn't resist bringing that tale to life. She ordered a taxidermy-like wolf for her husband who was blown away by the eccentric gift, and placed it on the landing at the top of the stairs to stand guard of their family. Cuteness.
#2 Vintage vinyl
One of the best things about rummaging through an old property is finding forgotten gems. This was the recurring beauty for Angel and Dick, who both have an adoration for the vintage era. When looking through the chateau's attic, Angel found vinyl records from the 1900s belonging to the castle's original family. To learn more, Angel and Dick travelled to Paris and visited a record store where they were able to play the vinyl and listen to the music the old family once played.
#3 Double strength
As both Angel and Dick are incredibly experienced in their own fields, it was natural that Angel would focus on the interior aesthetic of the castle and Dick would carry out the construction and engineering. But as the renovations deepened, they both taught each other how to expand their skillset. The glamorous 1940s red-head, who is never without a red lip or a fabulous outfit, was taught by her husband to knock down walls, and Dick has been known to design his own tiles. As the saying goes, teamwork makes the dream work.
#4 Saying 'I Do'
When Angel and Dick bought their chateau for £280,000 GBP ($514,000 AUD) they set themselves a limited time frame to prepare the castle that would host their wedding less than a year away. With family and friends due to stay in the castle, Angel and Dick worked tirelessly renovating bedrooms and preparing the grounds so their day was a seamless success.
As savvy DIY'ers, they did everything by hand - from decorations, reupholstering furniture, hand-sewn monogrammed serviettes and Dick even sourced and cooked all the food. But when the day came, their hard work paid off as they tied the knot at their own chateau, and danced once again under the lights of the Orangerie.
#5 Their first job
With Chateau de la Motte Husson now renovated for business, Angel and Dick opened their gates to host their first booked wedding. As well as being the chefs, landscapers, designers and hosts, the pair went above and beyond for the bride and groom to ensure their experience was nothing short of a fairy tale. The luxurious honeymoon suite is ready, the Orangerie is set with vintage teacups for champagne and Dick has cooked everything himself, even making a smoking barbecue out of an old oil drum for the spit. Make way, they are taking on the world.
