The moment I met Andrew Prior, his warm welcome and friendly nature made the tour fun and very informative. The tour took us to some of South Yarra's finest shops and met passionate creators who love what they do and produce amazing desserts that leave you satisfied. My most memorable part of the tour is meeting Mercedes, the owner of A La Folie, the moment I had the first bite of her macaroons, I knew I had the real thing. A tour well worth going on for dessert lovers of Melbourne.
Before meeting the friendly Andrew in the morning, I was uncertain about what to expect on my Queenie’s Sweet Dreams tour. He put us all quickly at ease, and after introductions we were off to our first stop.
I won’t give away Andrew’s secrets, but let’s just say that not a single stop on the walking tour was a “dud” and instead I enjoyed several hours of lazy walking, chatting and sweet treats – and what treats there were. Highlights of his tour include several passionate makers who talked with us in person about their journeys. Andrew’s warmth and passion for great food is infectious, and the morning is punctuated by entertaining stories (from him as our guide, as well as the fellow “tourists”).
The pace of the tour is relaxing, and the stops are not the obvious ones. I’m ashamed to admit that several of the places we visited are ones I might otherwise have walked past. But Andrew’s introduction allowed us to develop insight into what really makes a successful business: the answer is passion. Both Andrew and the business owners where we stopped have that passion in spades!
By the close of the tour, we look forward to crossing paths with each other again, and having further visits to Andrew’s secret finds. I look forward to booking more tours with Andrew, and heartily recommend his tours to both residents of and visitors to Melbourne. You will not be disappointed!
Well worth the experience
There is not many people that I have job envy over but today was the day. I have just spent the morning with Andrew Prior of Queenie Food Tours on his Sweet Dreams Tour, spending the morning visiting beautiful sweet and dessert food shops.
What amazing arrays of places we visited; the stops along the tour were all delicious and all share with us some of their amazing creations. We were also fortunate to be able to talk to some of the owners and chefs all sharing their passion and love of food. One amazing lady Mercedes owner and manager of A La Folie shares with us her story about opening her macaroon shop she is such an inspiration and you can tell she is so passionate about her business and well the macaroons are just amazing. There is also enough time to purchase beautiful treats to take home - all of which are reasonably priced.
Andrew himself is a lovely warm character a wonderful host and a font of knowledge of Melbourne food scene The tour is well organised, great value for money and I would highly recommend anyone to go and have the great experience we did. Would I go again – Like a shot! I am looking forward to my next Queenie Food Tour.
Queenie's Sweet Dreams Tour is a truly well researched, memorable, relaxed and most importantly delicious walking tour to seven of the most amazing sweet shops in South Yarra.
We tasted some honestly mouth-watering dessert creations at most stores along the way, many of which I will be heading back for in the very near future. We had the option to purchase at each store, so be prepared to be carrying a lot of goodie bags home.
We met some wonderful and passionate store owners and chefs who spent time with us explaining the steps they take to make their products taste and look as spectacular as they do.
Your tour guide Andrew is friendly, well organised and extremely knowledgeable. He keeps you entertained throughout the tour with stories of his exciting food related adventures and his obvious love of good food.
I highly recommend everyone who has a sweet tooth to take this tour, and if you don't have a sweet tooth, book in for one of his other food tours as I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
