English mathematician and logician, Alan Turing, helps crack the Enigma code during World War II.
During the winter of 1952, British authorities entered the home of mathematician, cryptanalyst and war hero Alan Turing (BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH – Sherlock, Hawking) to investigate a reported burglary. They instead ended up arresting Turing himself on charges of ‘gross indecency,’ an accusation that would lead to his devastating conviction for the criminal offense of homosexuality – little did officials know, they were actually incriminating the pioneer of modern-day computing.
Famously leading a motley group of scholars, linguists, chess champions and intelligence officers, he was credited with cracking the so-called unbreakable codes of Germany’s World War II Enigma machine. An intense and haunting portrayal of a brilliant, complicated man, The Imitation Game follows a genius who under nail-biting pressure helped to shorten the war and, in turn, save millions of lives.
The Imitation Game received eight Academy Award nominations 2014 including, Best Picture, Best Actor- BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH, Best Supporting Actress- KEIRA KNIGHTLEY (Begin Again, Atonement) Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Product Design, Best Director- MORTEN TYLDUM (Head Hunters, Buddy) and Best Film Editing.

I love watching movies based on true stories and "The Imitation Game" sure lived up to all the hype I had heard about it.
Benedict Cumberbatch delivers a brilliant performance in his portrayal of the mathematician Alan Turing while Keira Knightley is also amazing in her role of Joan Clarke. Alan Turing is put under immense pressure to crack the code of the German's Enigma machine during the second world war with support from Joan.
It's an eye opening story about a man that could have so easily gone unnoticed, so I'm glad that this tale has been told and I was able to enjoy watching it unfold.

Had a family movie night and thoroughly enjoyed watching this film. Epic tale of the Enigma machine and the tense moments of trying to crack the code. Cleverly portrayed, thought provoking and brilliantly cast with a storyline that depicts tolerance on homosexuality has not changed a great deal almost 80 years later.
Totally surprised I didnt think this was a movie I would enjoy let alone love it so much I wanted to watch again.
I think this movie is one that rewatching you would notice lots of things missed the first time adding to the enjoyment.
It is amazing that the human brain can be so brilliant & clever yet so cruel & switched off to what is going on around them.
I feel so sad for young people that went through their lives living with a secret & feeling it to be so shameful when it was not.
When will society be able to accept all human beings & their differences.
Great movie. Very captivating. A story that needed to be told.
