Gianni Versace's home is now open to the public for the first time in 22 years.
In 1992, the Italian fashion designer bought the palatial Miami Beach property as well the next door hotel, before spending $32 million on renovations to make it his private home. Adding a pool, separate wings and ten generous bedroom suites, Gianni's home was a statement of oppulence and art - with every part of the property embellished with the signature Versace design.
Only five years later, the Italian icon would be shot on the doorsteps of this very home - immeditately making the property a historical archive for the world to only spectate.
With its doors closed, only to be privately opened for the filming of Foxtel's The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, the property was sold to the Victor Hotels group for $41.5 million US in 2013 to undergo restoration and become Villa Casa Casuarina.
While many of Gianni's personal items from the house are now in the care of his beloved sister, Donatella, the rest of the property remains the original structure as when Gianni built it over 20 years ago - like the pool, with the signature Versace medusa symbol at the head.
The bedroom is one of ten suites Gianni designed and created, from a former 24 apartment hotel.
The extravagant rooms start at $1,000 AUD per night, complete with a grand ensuite and original Versace detail. Available through Booking.com, guests are able to experience a bit of history as they stay in the once private home of the Italian icon.
As well as a bar, pool and lounge areas, the hotel created a restaurant in the designer's name, called Gianni's - which serves a rich blend of Italian and Mediterranean food, to honour the late designer.
While paying guests have access to all amenities, the bar and restaurant are also are open to the public for reservations.
The hotel conserved the original features of the property, only updating applicances and technology that would suit the modern guest.
Situated on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, the hotel offers an ideal location for exploring the exciting area as well as exclusive views out to the ocean.
