Top 5 Reasons to Ski Hotham this Winter

Awesome terrain, fresh powder and a summit-top village situated in one of the most scenic places in the country with endless entertainment, makes Hotham an unrivalled Australian winter getaway. Here are 5 reasons why you should visit.

Can you think of a better way to spend winter than be at the snow? Located in the Australian Alpine National Park in Victoria, Hotham is only 4.5 hours drive from Melbourne and 8 hours from Sydney and offers the best skiing and snowboarding in Australia.

JUCY drivers have been hitting the slopes this season in droves, so we’ve asked them to give us their top 5 reasons to visit Hotham this winter.

1. Best terrain in Australia

Known for having the most advanced terrain Australia, Hotham has 320 hectares of snow for skiing and boarding serviced by 13 lifts and 3 terrain parks. Long, downhill runs cater to all abilities up to 2.5km will definitely get your quads burning. For those looking for a challenge, head to the Extreme Zone, which has more isolated, steep and off-piste runs. The bravest and most adventure seeking could head to Avalanche Gully for trees, cliffs and very steep runs.

2. Apres ski

We love skiing and snowboarding, but we also love après ski after a long day on the slopes. Known for amazing food and craft beers, The Bird has weekly specials and afternoon live music. The General is where you go if you are looking for a big night out. Located next to the village chair, grab an Apres Jug of Boags for just $17 at Swindlers, termed the 'heart beat of Hotham' because of the big name often headlining. Nights in Hotham are just as fun as your days on the hill.

3. Fresh tracks

Dubbed as the ‘powder capital’ of Australia, Hotham is having excellent snowfall this season with over 75cm of snow through July. Keogh’s and Orchard chairlift recently opened as a result of 42cm dumping at the end of July offering skiers more challenging terrain options. Runs are kept fresh all season with cutting edge technology that’s only available at Hotham in Southern Hemisphere.

4. Fun activities

Get whisked away into winter wonderland of backcountry trails by a gorgeous team of Siberian Huskies. Dinner Plain's Snow Park is the perfect place to take the kids tubing and for skiing lessons.  There’s also 35kms of cross-country trails with the most spectacular scenery and free to ski. Prefer to relax instead? Book in for a luxurious treatment on offer at White Spa or Onsen Retreat + Spa.

5. Ski for free

From now until October 27, JUCY car and camper van renters who want to hit the slopes can receive one free adult lift pass to Hotham for up to six consecutive days per rental contract. With rental locations in both Sydney and Melbourne, skiers can rent cars or vans that come with ski racks and chains, making it easy to navigate the roads and still have plenty of room to accommodate equipment as well as family and friends.
