The Most Colourful Travel Destinations in the World

Colour your travels with a trip to one of these gorgeous destinations.

If you're after a holiday with that wow factor, take yourself to one of the most colourful locations on our fair planet.

Life in a big city can feel a bit draining, so brighten up those days with these gorgeous sites.

1. Burano, Italy

Just off Venice, the island of Burano is full of canals lined with quaint but brightly-coloured homes. Wander the streets, enjoy a delicious pasta by the sea, or purchase some world-renowned Burano glass, but make sure you don't miss this little gem.

2. Menton, France

Menton is one of the lesser known cities on the French Riviera - but it won't stay that way for long! It is right on the Italian border, east of  Monaco. So, when you're done exploring the pastel laneways, you can relax on some of the prettiest beaches in France.

3. Bo-Kaap, South Africa

This area in Cape Town used to be known as the Malay part of the city and was founded by Muslim settlers with a knack for creating gorgeous architecture and artisanal produce. It is known as the "cultural gateway" to South Africa's capital, and is worth seeing with a guide or on a tour to grasp its fascinating history.

4. Jodhpur, India

A popular tourist destination, Jodhpur has many delights on offer to sightseers. Not only is the old city a gorgeous fortress, and the entire town is set against a magic desert, but it's entirely blue. Yep. Blue. Get your cameras ready - and hold on tight!

5. Wroclaw, Poland

If you're yet to come across Wroclaw on your travels, let us save you some time with the name: it's pronounced 'vrots-wahv'! From the very, very old, to the hip and modern - there is lots to do in this historic city. However, you simply can't miss a stroll around the old town to take some stunning pictures for the photo album!

6. Pachuca, Mexico

The colours in this Mexican city are fairly new and the story is fascinating. Starting in 2014, the city commissioned local artists to paint the homes on the hillside of the suburb of Las Palmitas - a working class area with a bit of a dodgy reputation. While, from the outside, it looks like a psychedelic swirl of eye-catching colour, many walls contain detailed artworks from talented street artists.

7. Júzcar, Spain

This Andalusian was white up until very recently. In 2011, the town was painted blue as a tribute to... The Smurfs! Sony Pictures painted the city blue to promote its film, Smurfs. In fairness, Sony did offer to repaint Júzcar but the people voted to leave it blue - and tourism has since skyrocketed!

8. Nyhavn, Denmark

This suburb of Copenhagen is often on the bucket list of travellers visiting this European city. The harbourside townhouses have become a bustling hub of cafes and restaurants for you to enjoy at leisure - but be sure to follow up your meal with an evening stroll down the pier.

9. Procida, Italy

Most people know Italy's other colourful towns - such as those along the Cinque Terre or the Amalfi Coast. However, Procida is one of the Flegrean Islands off Naples and, while it isn't as touristy as Italy's other colourful locations, it is sure to grow in popularity!

10. Guatape, Colombia

This area of the Colombia is perhaps best known for its manmade lakes and a thriving hub of Colombia's wealthy - including Pablo Escobar. Many tourists will arrive in the town en-route to one of Pablo's homes. However, the town itself has a picturesque charm with almost cartoonish streets.
