Combine arcade games and bars for the ultimate night out in LA.
We all love a bit of nostalgia. Mix that with a few drinks and it sounds like the perfect night out.
So if you're travelling to Los Angeles in the coming months, check out the city's growing trend for 'barcades'.
Bars themed around your favourite childhood arcade games are popping up all over the City of Angels, becoming some of California's hottest hangouts.
We've rounded up some of our favourite spots that combine bustling bars with the arcade game revival.
Location: Arts District
Craft cocktails, weekend DJ sets, a sunny outdoor patio, and an open, industrial feel make this bar one of our favourites on the list. The games here tend to be of the more classic variety, with a bank of pinball machines and titles like Street Fighter II, Joust and Galaga. Several of the cocktails have video game-inspired names.
Arriving through a secret entrance, you'll find the Houston Brothers' hidden ode to the '80s. The all-immersive atmosphere will have you plugging away at Donkey Kong, Galaga or Pac-Man while '80s music is blasting in the background. When you're done playing games, head to the karaoke rooms.
The selection of games is ample at Blipsy Bar, from classic childhood machines to oversized carnival animals and vintage toys. You'll be greeted by a neon Pac-Man at the door and find DJs and relatively cheap drinks inside.
Location: Downtown LA
This is a must visit for the competitive Aussie traveller, offering more tactile games such as ping pong, table football and skee-ball. It's one of just a few craft brewpubs in LA, brewing 3,300 barrels of beer each year on-site.
