Concierge shares how to get VIP treatment during your next hotel stay

Ever wanted to be that lucky person who always seems to score an upgrade or receive better treatment at hotels?

If you're heading off on a holiday and want to make it a bit more special, these handy tips could help to get yourself an added extra!

Assistant Chief Concierge, Sagung Sri Laksmita Dewi from W Bali - Seminyak, shares some insights on how to get the best treatment when you're checking into your hotel.

How to get an upgrade or added extra

Quite often your holiday is taken in conjunction with a special occasion - so, don't be afraid to shout it from the rooftops! 

"Tell us if you’re celebrating anything exciting: birthday, anniversary, graduation, engagement… that’s a guarantee to get something special from us!" Sagung says. 

But the real way to guarantee some extra treats is to register with their (generally free) loyalty program. 

"Most loyalty programs do have really great rewards for members! Our program is Marriott Bonvoy. Registration is free and you get benefits like 10 per cent discounts in all the bars and restaurants. It sounds a bit clichéd but honestly, get enrolled in the loyalty program and you’ll be rewarded straight away," Sagung details. "Your profile will also follow you from one hotel to another, so we’ll know some of your preferences, even if you’ve never stayed with us before, and we’ll try to accommodate!"

Check-in tips

Sagung reveals that check-in is one of the most important moments of your stay.

"Everyone has their preferences, whether it be a full explanation of the hotel and facilities, or the quick run-down that will get you to your room ASAP. The best thing to do is actually to tell the team at the welcome desk what you’d like to hear - tell them if you just want to go to your room quickly and they’ll make it quick, or tell them if you want all the info and they’ll be delighted to explain everything," Sagung says. 

And remember, if you haven't already, tell them upon check-in if you're celebrating something special!

Keep the staff in mind

A smile can also go a long way when you're interacting with hotel staff. 

"That being said, kindness and manners make all the difference with the staff of the hotel!," Sagung adds. "Equal respect and a kind nature between guests and staff will ensure they go above and beyond to make sure your stay is the most memorable and enjoyable that you could have."
