Paddock To Plate

Gourmet Hot Spots: On the Road with Matt Moran

Matt Moran is back on the road for Series 2 of Paddock to Plate! After spending last season travelling through the eastern states, the chef ventured to South Australia and down the endless coast of Western Australia.

Go behind the scenes and find out more in this sneak peek from the September Foxtel Magazine

Here are some of Matt's highlights:

EP 1 - EYRE PENINSULA, SA
“You don’t get much prettier than the Eyre Peninsula. It has such diverse landscapes. You’ve got Port Lincoln – which is a real food hub – and the incredibly dry and arid Port Augusta, where we cooked saltbush lamb."

EP 2 - RIVERLAND, SA
“This season, it was all about changing the landscape and the climate. Riverland is very different terrain – it’s very flat. And it was very hot that time of year, especially in the middle of the day when we were filming."

EP 3 - SOUTHERN FORESTS, WA
“Timber country – and Manjimup is becoming famous for its truffles and apples now. We met the guy who created the Pink Lady apple and we celebrated its 40th anniversary".

EP 4 - FLEURIEU PENINSULA, SA
“The Fleurieu is right down the bottom of the state where you go over to Kangaroo Island. It’s one of those very special places – and an amazing amount of produce comes out of there. There’s a lot of farming and seafood in Fleurieu."

EP 5 - THE GASCOYNE, WA
“A lot of people don’t realise that Carnarvon – which is about halfway between Perth and Broome – is a big food centre. They’re famous for their bananas and grow the ‘lunchbox bananas’, which are the size to fit in a lunchbox.

EP 6. BAROSSA VALLEY, SA
“There’s a lot more to the Barossa than people think. People know it as wine country, but it’s a real food bowl, too. Obviously grapes are there, but there’s a lot of different farming around that region."

EP 7. SOUTH WEST, WA
“This is Perth and Margaret River, which is real dairy country. And not just milk. They say some of the best veal in the world comes from here. We also went and did Big Red pork down in Margaret River with the guy who created Cloudy Bay wines."

EP 8. THE KIMBERLEY, WA
“Anyone who’s ever been to the Kimberley will know it’s one of the most beautiful places on Earth. We went mudcrabbing with an Aboriginal elder and diving with barramundi at Cone Bay, and we were out getting pearls with Paspaley, the pearling company."
