Best places to celebrate International Beer Day around the world

The options are endless when it comes to celebrating International Beer Day.

From taking a swill of some USA craft beer in Mammoth Lakes to doing a brewery tour in Tasmania, there's a spot all over the world to raise a glass in celebration of International Beer Day.

Mammoth Lakes, USA

With its phenomenal mountain scenery, endless recreation and an awesome microbrewery scene you can see why a festival like the ‘Mammoth Festival of Beers & Bluesapalooza’ is such a huge success. With over 85+ craft breweries/cideries pouring beers and ciders from around the country, the 24th Annual Mammoth Festival of Beers & Bluesapalooza is the best craft beer and music festival in the US! The four-day event starting August 1 features more than 20 bands on two stages performing blues, rock, R&B and soul surrounded by the majestic town of Mammoth Lakes and the Eastern Sierra.

If you aren’t in town for the festival, never fear because Mammoth Lakes is the perfect destination for pairing a frosty brew and outdoor adventure with a world class brewery in each of the six mountain towns. Whether you pedal, paddle or hike, a delicious craft brew will be at the end awaiting you. From Mammoth Brewing Co.'s famous Epic IPA to Black Doubt Brewery's crisp Insatiable Saison, the quality of Eastern Sierra beer is all about the area's pure water. Captured from snow melt, this is where mountain water really is from the mountains.

Mykonos, Greece

Hidden underground behind a supermarket you can find the home of the famous Mikonu beer. Mykonos Brewing Company started fermenting its first batches of craft beer at their new, state of the art brew house on the island of Mykonos in Greece in 2017. With a combination of Greek malt and Belgian caramel wheat, hard to find hops and with the mythological story of the Giants on their backs, the famous Mikonu beer was born.

Greek-owned cruise ship operators Celestyal Cruises offer classic experiences of discovery for those encountering Greece's beauty for the first time.

Sonoma County, USA

Sonoma County is synonymous for its world-class wine, but the Wine Country is also a top destination for beer lovers. Sonoma County has over 29 operating breweries, but people all over California are going crazy for ‘Pliny the Elder’, available only at the Russian River Brewing Company in Santa Rosa.

Pliny the Elder was one of the first commercially brewed Double or Imperial IPA’s in America and won numerous awards over the years and is still their most popular beer nearly 20 years later. Thousands line up around the block when Pliny the Younger, their Triple IPA, is released once a year for two weeks only at both Downtown Santa Rosa and Windsor breweries on the first Friday in February.

Tennessee, USA

Tennessee may be world renowned for its whiskey, but the craft beer scene is also thriving. For the first time in Tennessee you can celebrate the art of a perfect brew at the states Morristown Craft Beer Festival in September 2019 - featuring as many as 16 distinct categories of beer from local, regional, and national breweries available in 3 oz. “Tastings" and as 12 oz full pours. The day also includes live music, fun for kids and contests such as the famous Corn-hole Tournament.

If you aren’t in town for the festival, there are an abundance of breweries worth visiting. Across town and perched upon a seven-acre West Nashville hillside is Tennessee’s largest brew house, TailGate Beer at 7300 Charlotte Pike. What feels more like an entertainment mecca complete with Frisbee golf, paint by pint classes and Friday movie nights, the craft remains its core with two new mind-bending releases drop every single week.

Hamburg, Germany

There is no better place to celebrate International Beer Day than at the heart of the beer capital, Germany, and there is a particularly vibrant craft beer scene in Hamburg. Today the city offers a wide array of handcrafted ales, beers and lagers – and a wealth of places in which to sample them. Whether you prefer to join a brewery tour or relax in a beer garden with a freshly pulled drink, Hamburg presents a range of opportunities to savour some exceptional tastes of craft brewing.

Ratsherrn brewery opened its doors in 2012 and has quickly become one of the city’s most popular and successful craft brewers. Its selection of classics, along with yearly limited editions, is available at pubs, bars and shops across Hamburg and can also be sampled on highly enjoyable tours of the brewery. Set right on the Elbe River, Blockbräu is another well-known brewery which has an ideal location and offers beautiful views from its terrace. The simple pleasure of sipping a cold beer with a freshly baked pretzel in hand while watching the sun set over Hamburg can never be overestimated.

Huaraz, Peru

You may find that people all over Peru drink staple Cusqueña, Pilsen and Cristal, but the craft beer scene has only recently taken off in the country, so you are now bound to come across a brew in one of Peru’s major cities. If you find yourself in the stunning hiking capital of Peru, Huaraz, you can hike beautiful trails by day and enjoy a delicious craft by night or even while you take a few days to acclimatize to the 3052m elevation.

TRIVIO Resto-Bar Sierra Andina boast an abundance of tasty craft beers, but without a doubt their best is the Pachacútec Imperial Ale, packing a big punch with 10.5% alcohol, with a smooth, delicious taste and a finish that masks the alcohol content.
