Are these Australia’s best B&Bs?

Although we love the luxury of an opulent hotel, there's something simply irresistible about the homely comforts of a beautiful B&B.

Home-cooked breakfasts, open log fires and perhaps even a friendly pooch to befriend: Bed and breakfasts are full of charm and character that can't be replicated in even the most luxurious hotel.

With a new series of Four in a Bed premiering on Lifestyle, we've sought out the most beautiful B&Bs in Australia to celebrate the importance of these quiet achievers. Here are some of the places we've been dreaming of:

Forest and heaven-themed B&B, Melbourne

We've regularly looked out longingly from the seat of a plane and lusted after the soft, sumptuous clouds outside our window. So it's no wonder this top-rated B&B, with its rainforest-inspired living area and cloud-like bedroom, caught our eye.

This heavenly B&B is listed on the website's Plus platform, meaning it has passed an in-person quality inspection to ensure it meets high standards of comfort, quality, and style, and the hosts of this magical property have been christened Airbnb Superhosts.

Miner's Cottage, Howqua River

Set metres from the idyllic Howqua River in rural Victoria, this small but perfectly-formed cottage is equipped with all the amenities you might need for a luxury weekend away.

Rated five-stars by guests, perhaps the best part of the cottage is its lack of phone reception, allowing you to be totally off-grid during your time away.

Treehouse, Broome

Located in Old Broome, this architect-designed B&B is built around a boab tree, with an al fresco kitchen and dining area.

Shower under the stars in the claw foot bath or enjoy a great night’s rest in the antique brass and iron bed.

Captains Rest, Strahan

Impeccably-styled by its interior stylist host, this historically-listed cottage is set on absolute waterfront in Lettes Bay Village just outside of Strahan, Tasmania.

With its own jetty out the front and infinite cosy corners to curl up in, this top-rated B&B is booked out months in advance all-year-round by regular visitors who've fallen in love with the cottage's peace and tranquillity.

Milton Country Retreat's Chocolate Cottages, Milton

Not your average B&B, this property on the NSW South Coast combines rural luxury with the host's love of decadent chocolate.

Owner Cassandra was looking to provide her guests with an indulgent escape from the real world by offering boutique accommodation in a retreat-like setting coupled with delicious chocolate experiences.

Guests can choose to participate in seven different chocolate workshops during their stay at this unique bed and breakfast, or relax completely while overlooking some of the best views the south coast has on offer.

Ross Farm B&B, Meeniyan

Part of an ongoing project to repurpose a disused dairy farm into modern accommodation, this B&B is the first of three properties available for guests to enjoy. The timber cabin overlooks two acres of open land, with uninterrupted views across the Tarwin Valley.

Thoughtfully-designed with the inclusion of many hand-crafted elements, the cabin's aesthetic draws on inspiration from the local landscape with a nod to Danish and Japanese sensibilities and we're just dying to snuggle up under those soft linen sheets.

BULC Bed and Breakfast, Lake Macquarie

This brand-new, modern industrial B&B is located in NSW's Lake Macquarie, with fabulous views overlooking the area.

All suites feature their own private courtyard, where guests can relax or enjoy the delicious breakfast served by their five-star hosts. The accommodation is also pet-friendly, so your furry friend won't have to miss out on any of the luxury while you're away.

Bimbimbie Hideaway, Adelaide Hills

For the eco-conscious amongst us, the Bimbimbie Hideaway offers guests a back-to-basics retreat just 30 minutes’ drive to Adelaide’s CBD.

The mudbrick cabin is off-grid, only powered by a solar panel which runs three lights. During winter, the cabin is kept cosy by a pot belly stove - perfect for a romantic and restorative break away from the chaos of daily life.
