1. Kauai, United States

2. Finland

There's no one location that captures the diverse beauty of Finland. The small northern European nation is home to 40 national parks, all showcasing the arctic wonders that make Finland a must for explorers.

3. Baja California, Mexico

Swim with gorgeous fish and even whale off the coast off the north-west coast of Mexico. The Revillagigedo Islands and the San Ignacio Lagoon are just two of the magnificent marine locations to see in the region. 

4. Cloud Forests, Ecuador

Ecuador is perhaps better known for its gorgeous Galapagos Islands. However, National Geographic would similarly recommend a trip to the Cloud Forests high up in the Andres.The forests are home to unique bird species and a number of rare "air plants".

5. Via Dinarica, Western Balkans

This mountain trek passes through the Dinaric Alps across Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania and Macedonia. According to National Geographic, 2017 is the time to go as it will be the first year the trail will be mapped and marked to better accommodate hikers.

6. Central India

The tiger parks in the middle of India will get you up-close to the majestic Bengal tiger. A new railway dubbed the Tiger Express also connects the Madhya Pradesh national parks with other top tiger-spotting destinations.

7. Banff, Canada

A popular destination for expats working the ski fields, Banff also possesses an untouched natural beauty for those who don't want to stray too far off the tourist path.
