Bali Bliss: Where to Stay in Seminyak

Seminyak is home to some of Bali’s best restaurants, fashion boutiques and luxury resorts. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the accomodation choices on offer - so here are six reasons to choose the Anantara Seminyak.

Anantara is a beautiful and intimate boutique hotel that allows you to escape the bustling Bali beachside suburb, but still be close enough to all of Seminyak’s action. While you may consider staying at other larger 5-star hotels in the area or your own private villa, we found Anantara to be the perfect balance between the two.

As this charming property sits proudly on the beachfront, if you do want to while your time away at the resort (and trust us, it’s easy to do!), the hardest decision you’ll need to make all day is whether to dip in the infinity pool or venture down to the waves.

Much like the whole Anantara family, there are plenty of reasons to choose this as your home in Bali – but here are our top 6.

1.      Attention to Detail

From the luxurious modern suites with an indoor and outdoor jacuzzi to the cute picnic baskets containing complimentary water, fruit and sun cream handed out by beaming staff every time you hit a sun lounger - the thoughtful touches are everywhere. The Anantara service is genuine and friendly, and up there with the best that we’ve received throughout Asia. You will be left uttering plenty of ‘wows’ during your stay – all the way through to the moment you begrudgingly depart and are farewelled with a Hindu blessing ceremony.

2.       SOS Supper Club

On the top floor of Anantara, you will find the popular and swanky SOS Supper Club.  Whether you’re looking for a tasty tapas dinner or simply want to relax on the comfy day beds with amazing cocktails (we couldn’t resist their Chilli Martinis!) – this is the place to catch one of Seminyak’s stunning sunsets over the Indian ocean.  The DJ on hand will play just the right chilled sounds for you to wind down with the sun as you reflect on your day – or you could even stick around when things heat up and hit the dancefloor.

3.       Dining by Design

Let the team set up a beautiful dining location right on the beach, complete with flowers, flags, romantic lighting and candles.  With your feet in the sand, your private chef will get creative and serve up an incredible meal just for you – we opt for an extensive selection of traditional Balinese dishes and exquisite seafood on the BBQ. Your private waiter will also make sure this is one special meal you’ll never forget. Go on, treat yourself to this heavenly experience – you deserve it!

4.       Spice Spoons Cooking Class

Take a tour to Denpasar Pasar Badung and get an inside look at the biggest food market in Bali.  Accompanied by the chef and guide, you will discover all of the wonderful and unique produce that Bali has to offer.  On return to the hotel, you will put your knowledge into practice under the chef’s expert guidance to create lunch in the outdoor kitchen before you sit and enjoy your spoils with a beautiful view of the beach. Just make sure you bring your appetite – as we seemed to cook enough food to feed half the hotel guests! Find out more about the cooking class and recipes here.

5.       The Spa

Anantara Spa is a sanctuary where you can be soothed, pampered, rejuvenated and revitalised in a beautiful surrounding.  The team creates a wonderful relaxed atmosphere that will leave you feeling like a new person – whether you partake in a massage, body treatment or aromatherapy. Their elixirs and oils are all influenced by indigenous ingredients, so you can benefit from the thousands of years of knowledge that Bali has to share with you.

6.       Location

It's hard to find fault with the resort's location - just a few steps from Seminyak beach.

When you're ready to explore, then all of Seminyak's hotspots are close by - including the stylish Ku De Ta  bar and restaurant (make sure you dress up a little) to your right down the beach or Potato Head Beach club, also a perfect spot to catch the sunset.  There are plenty of fine-dining options if you want to splurge - try the enchanting La Lucciola for a mediterranean influence or Sarong for Asian-fusion. Head to your left towards Legian and there are several laid-back beach bars, like La Plancha, complete with bean bags and cheap food and drinks on offer.  Seminyak is also a shopper's mecca and you can find everything from street stalls to high end boutiques. Hit the markets at Seminyak Square or wander down Jalan Laksmana and Jalan Oberoi for some fantastic fashion and homewares boutiques.
