10 Awesome Things to do on the Gold Coast this Winter

What better way to beat the chill than to escape it? With balmy weather all year round, the Gold Coast boasts tons of sunshine and adventure.

Featuring more than 70km of stunning coastline, the Gold Coast is a scenic wonderland boasting tons of sunshine and adventure. Here are Brisbane Airtrain's pick of the 10 hottest Goldie pursuits this winter.

1. Get up close and personal with the gentle giants of the sea

June marks the beginning of humpback whale watching season on the Gold Coast. Experience 360 degree unobstructed views of the humpback’s spectacular acrobatic displays until October, and cheeky dolphins and turtles along the way.

2. Run one of the most stunning courses on earth

Race against the backdrop of amazing blue skies and some of the world’s most beautiful beaches at the 37th Gold Coast Airport Marathon from 4 to 5 July.

3. Revel in a sky-high thrill

Take on a journey to the summit of Q1, the world’s tallest residential tower. In an ear-popping 43 seconds, climbers are whisked to the 77th floor then strapped into harnesses to scale nearly 300 stairs, ascending to a height of 270 metres. It’s not for the faint-hearted but the 360 degree views over the city are worth it.

4. Fire up for a blockbuster game

Enjoy the Queen’s Birthday long weekend at Metricon Stadium when the Gold Coast SUNS take on Sydney Swans for Round 10 of the 2015 Toyota AFL premiership season on Saturday 6 June.

5. Rekindle your romance

Float over the majestic Gold Coast hinterland in a hot air balloon with a glass of wine and your significant other.

6. Ignite your imagination

Experience a mind-blowing 30-minute journey into 20 futuristic, maze-like worlds filled with special effects, atmospheric sound fields and illusions that go all the way to infinity. This dreamlike fun-house is the first of its kind in the world that will have all the family entertained.

7. Marvel at the beauty of pristine rainforests

The Tooloona Creek circuit at Canungra offers the very best that Lamington National Park has to offer from scenic waterfalls to boulder-strewn creeks, gnarled Antarctic beech trees and World-Heritage listed rainforests. Enjoy cameo views through the trees over the coast and border ranges all the way to Byron Bay before returning along the Border Track to Green Mountains.

8. Have a swingin’ good time

Broadbeach Jazz Festival from 19 to 21 June is one of Australia’s most loved local music events featuring the best Australian jazz artists on outdoor stages. It is also completely free so you can unwind surrounded by good music without breaking the bank.

9. Channel your inner daredevil

Experience over 40 spine-tingling rides and attractions at Dreamworld Theme Park famous for having the highest, fastest and most impressive rides in the country. Families can brave the BIG9 thrill rides and enjoy time with their little ones in Wiggles World and the DreamWorks Experience including Madagascar Madness.

10. Go gourmet

The Gold Coast hinterland is evolving into one of Queensland’s most interesting food and wine destinations, home to a growing number of creative culinary types producing everything from beer to brie. Head to Witches Falls, a family-run winery doing fabulous things with chardonnay and verdelho grapes, or create a culinary masterpiece at Tamborine Cooking School
