Tom Rutledge is a self-taught cooking enthusiast and 2011 MasterChef Australia contestant. He is also the Founder and CEO of HelloFresh Australia (www.hellofresh.com.au), an exciting new online recipe and grocery delivery service from Europe that’s made its way to Australian shores.

Hailing from the cattle country of the New South Wales Southern Tablelands, Tom grew up on a beef and wool-producing farm. As a child, Tom woke up every morning to the sounds and smells of fresh produce. He would collect eggs from the chook shed, understand that the cows in the paddock would one day be served up as dinner, and know that mum’s veggie patch was a veritable feast of flavours.
It was at university that Tom truly cultivated his love and understanding of food. While honing his cooking skills at night, Tom spent his days completing a Bachelor of Economics and Politics at Sydney University. He wrote his thesis on sustainable water use and explored food security issues, showing that his interest in food extends far beyond the kitchen table.
Tom went on to manage the development of a boutique wine company, establishing and acquiring several consumer brands and overseeing the supply chain from grapes on the vine to bottles on the shelf.
In 2010, he decided to apply for the third series of MasterChef, beating thousands of applicants to make it to the final 24 in the 2011 series. Despite leaving the show early in the finals competition, Tom gained invaluable experience which he decided to put to good use; He started Mr. Perkins & Co., a boutique gourmet home food delivery service. The business was a success, and it was because of this that he was approached by investors to bring HelloFresh to the Australian market.
Hello Fresh was launched in Australia in 2012, with Tom personally overseeing the menu planning and recipe development to ensure that customers receive the very best quality food and variety of recipes possible.
