Young Cate Blanchett Singing and Dancing is the Best Thing You'll See Today

Vintage footage of Cate Blanchett making an utter fool out of herself on national television is proof, once and for all, that life can get better.

The two-time Oscar winner, all-time goddess and national treasure once appeared on Hey, Hey It's Saturday 's 'Red Faces' segment - a classic piece of Australian TV designed to humiliate aspiring artists.

She and two other guys - who, for all we know, turned out to be Mensa geniuses or Grammy winners - bopped around on stage singing some utterly cringe-worthy song about "weird love".

The performance is believed to have taken part in the 80s while Cate was studying at Melbourne University.

She is the epitome of the awkward arts student - hiding immense talent behind wild hair, a vague look and buttons lining her crotch.

While you may not have been able to tell she was destined for great things, she was certainly willing to do whatever it took to make it happen!

As we know, Cate, 46, went on to become one of the most respected actresses of our generation - proving there is indeed hope for everyone.

Just take a look at this brilliant piece of Australian history:
