What To Wear To The Spring Races!

The Spring Racing Carnival is in full swing which means it’s time to dust off your fascinators and get out on the lawn in your best race day gear!

To help you work out what to wear to wow the judges this season, Chadstone Stylist and judge at this year’s Chadstone Fashion Stakes, Cheryl Weir has this advice to ensure you look your best!

1. Wear Colour

It’s not only the jockeys wearing colour this season! Bright, bold pop colours will be seen trackside this Spring Carnival. Vivid Orange, Vibrant blue, and Yellow; lots and lots of Yellow! Black and white, or Navy and White will also be a huge hit!

2. Feel Feminine

I think there will be lots of different styles making up the trackside fashions this year. The first being quite a ladylike and feminine feel; think Kate Middleton. A modest, but extremely elegant look. Carla Zampatti or Bianca Spender would be perfect if you were seeking this look. I’m also tipping a real structured look; something Victoria Beckham would wear.

Really fitted, elegant, and super modern. George Gross has many pieces in his collection resembling this style. For those who just love to frock up and show their own style, I’m predicting lots of beautiful lace, beading and pleating. Pleating is a huge trend this season and can be found in Thurley’s collection. For stunning beading head straight to Alannah Hill, and David Jones stock divine lace dresses by Collette Dinnigan and also Camilla & Marc.

3. Wear Shapewear

My biggest tip is definitely shaping underwear. These undergarments make a significant difference and every woman should own them. I recommend the skirt, however some women like the “all in one” garment. Some labels are also more flattering on the fuller figure, those being Carla Zampatti, Veronika Maine and Leona Edmiston. Avoid large prints on your outfit, and stick to block colours. Also make sure your headpiece is a higher shape, rather than a wider style.

4. Hats Are Back

Again, I’m thing we are going to see a big Kate Middleton influence. Kate wears quite rounded pieces on a high slope. Over all, headpieces are so personal, I’m hoping to see fun ones, crazy ones, simply stylish ones…and super modern ones! It’s really only once a year we can get away with wearing a work of art on our head, so my advice it to have fun with it!

5. Know Your Labels

When I think Racewear, many labels come straight to mind. Carla Zampatti for her elegant, timeless look. George Gross for his stunning structure, Thurley for beautifully designed dresses. Willow for bold colours and fashion forward features, Sass and Bide for cheeky dresses for the Gen Y race goers.

Leona Edmiston for that elegant 40’s look….the list is endless, but if you head to Chadstone, it is a one stop destination for your frock, headpiece, accessories, and those perfect pair of shoes! It’s called “The Fashion Capital” for a reason!

Plus, to make sure you stay cool, calm and in control on the day BMW Caulfield Cup Carnival Ambassador, Giaan Rooney, has these tips.

1. It is always hard trying to plan your outfit in advance so my main race wear tips for this year’s Spring Carnival is to ensure you’re appropriately dressed for the weather. I always make sure I have a light cardigan or opaque tights with me as you can never predict Melbourne’s weather.

2. Have a clutch large enough to fit all the race wear essentials like tissues, lip gloss, bandaids and a makeup compact for touch-ups throughout the day.

3. Have fun and enjoy this year’s fashion trends, colours and racing day themes.
