Wedding dresses for the non-traditional bride

If you're the kind of bride who would rather say 'I do' in a courthouse, or have her reception in the park, then these are some gowns for you.

This year's New York Bridal Fashion Week has kicked off and some of the biggest designers are showcasing some varied and fascinating looks this year.

While a preference for lavish, flowing, extravagant gowns persists, there were definitely a few non-conventional trends for brides who want to steer clear of the princess theme

Trousers and jumpsuits continue to be a trend in 2017, with more masculine styles entering the mix, such as this fantastic suit from Oscar De La Renta.

Meanwhile, if Naeem Khan's collection is anything to go by, the 80s are coming back for brides, with strong hints of Madonna's 'Like a Virgin' look making its way to the runway.

Other retro styles, from 50s pin up to 70s flower child can also be seen in the mix - so, really, if there's any moral of the story here it's 'be the bride you want to be'! Browse the gallery for some of our favourite wedding dress inspiration.
