Virtual makeup app is the new way to try on lipstick

Forget trying on lipstick in real life, there’s now an app that does it for you.

Sick of swatching your arm with every lipstick shade under the sun to find the perfect pink or neutral nude every time you shop for a lipstick?

Make-up app, Makeup Plus now lets you virtually try on any colour of lipstick or lip gloss, by a range of luxury beauty brands with the tap of a button. And it is as easy as it sounds.

The app has launched Counter, their virtual make up counter where you can live preview a range of lip colours and unique finished, such as gloss, matte or metallic.

Thanks to its clever artificial intelligence-based facial recognition and Augmented Reality technology, the app realistically simulates how the shade will look on your lips. And the result is as realistic as you can get!

Simply select your shade, click try and the colour will be accurately applied to your face using your smart phone camera.

And it gets better. Once you have tried and chosen your colour, you can buy it then and there.

The Chinese company behind the app, Meitu, has teamed up with beauty brands such as Sephora, Bobbi Brown, YSL, Max Factor, Clinque, and Lancome.

The app is available in a range of regions around the world and the available products change depending on the region you live in or select.

Director of Global Public Relations at Meitu, Liz Goodno says the app offers a simple solution to the often unhygienic task of selecting a lip shade.

"COUNTER solves a number of issues many people experience when searching for new lip products,” she said.

“Over a third of our users report that they are less likely to experiment with lip colour products compared to eye shadow, blush, and other elements of their makeup looks. For many, it's not hygienic, easy or practical to experiment with lip products in-store.”

The app also lets you try different hair colours, foundation shades and face contouring.

With an impressive 450 million users each month, the future of trying on makeup is definitely changing.
