What’s the best part of your job? Any particular highlights? What are you most proud of?

In my own salon, I find that every new client is a challenge-this keeps me on my toes and passionate about what I do. Fashion and trends are always evolving and I find working in this industry fascinating. In regards to what I am most proud of... I haven't done it yet

What’s it like styling for top fashion shows?

Styling for top fashion shows is either something you love or hate. It's high pressure, time precious and of course there can be a lot of ego's all crashing together in a very confined backstage space. If you have planned what looks you aim to achieve and you have a strong team supporting you, it makes it a walk in the park.

What’s the best advice you ever received?

My Grandad once said to me "assume that everyone you ever meet is an idiot, that way you will never be disappointed!"

How do I know if my hair is damaged?

You can actually test the health of your hair by floating it in a glass of water. Damaged hair will have split cuticles which make it look dull and lifeless. When damaged hair floats in water the cuticles act as a sponge making it heavy and cause it to sink. A healthy strand, that has been repaired will have no cracks and will float to the top-strange but true!

What are your top tips for hair care and overcoming dry or damaged hair?
To revive your hair, the follicle has to be moisturised. An overnight treatment / leave-in product will infuse your hair with the right ingredients to protect and nourish it so that you wake up in the morning with soft/supple tresses. Using the right products is an absolute must-try my new co-created Sunsilk Damage Reconstruction range to deeply condition and repair your hair. Plus, don't underestimate the positive effects of eating well, drinking enough water and getting lots of rest-your skin and hair will glow!

More about Tom Taw

Tom began his hairdressing career at the tender age of 15 as a Saturday boy in a busy salon in Surrey, England. Quickly finding his calling, Tom worked alongside some of the industry's best and worked his way up the ranks to become a Senior Creative Director at Aveda, London.

Tom's talents have taken him around the globe, creating looks for hair shows, fashion shows and educational seminars. In 2007, Tom opened BOBSOHO in central London, where he continues to develop and nurture his own brand of hairdressing. Tom believes in enhancing the natural beauty of your hair, rather than concealing it. The haircut should be customized to suit your hair texture and the colour should work with your own skin tone and eye shades.

The Sunsilk Damage Reconstruction range was two years in development with Tom being involved on every stage of the products creation. Tom was sought out by Sunsilk to develop this range due to his experience in nourishing and repairing the tresses of the hottest celebrity clientele as well as transforming distressed tresses of supermodels into beautiful gleaming healthy hair.
