Entourage or not, everybody needs good friends. So whom do Hollywood’s most powerful and playful chicks choose to hang with? Here’s the top 5 most famous BFFs we just love to love!
Like most relationships under the spotlight, famous friendships come and go. However the duos below share a close bond, and give new meaning to the term 'Hollywood Power Couple'. Here are the top 5 famous and most fabulous BFFs.
1. The Odd Couple: Gwyneth Paltrow and Beyoncé Carter
On the surface, Gwyneth and Beyoncé may seem an odd couple – the former a refined, statuesque Oscar-winning actress, and the latter - the unrivaled booty-liscious pop phenomenon. But on paper, their similarities entwine. Both married musicians and often tread into each other’s creative territory, with Gwyneth dabbling in singing – most notably for GLEE – and Beyoncé appearing in several movies, including Golden Globe winning Dreamgirls in 2006.
Strong supporters of each others careers, Bey and Gwyn openly gush about each other, with Beyoncé saying in a magazine interview that Gwyneth “is what I strive to be one day.”
Not just in career trajectory or cooking skills either, it seems. "She's a great friend on every level. I think for us, protecting our daughters is so important,” she notes as their recent, deeper connection since becoming mothers.
2. The Originals: Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox
A match made in casting heaven back in 1994 has proved a friendship to last the ages. Originally hitting the screens – and hitting it off 20 years ago in television series 'Friends', today Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox remain the firmest of, seeing each other through marriages, births, divorces and many Mexican joint holidays!
Jen is the godmother to Courteney’s daughter, Coco, and having both weathered the storms of high-profile breakups with actors (Jen famously with Brad Pitt and Courteney with David Arquette,) still prioritise each other when in different hemispheres, or each other's homes!
"I've slept in her guest bedroom a lot," Jennifer has said. "Without giving away too much of my private stuff, all I can say is she's been there for me through thick and thin."
3. The Songbirds: Taylor Swift and Lorde
Two gorgeous, globetrotting, record breaking, chart-topping singers are bound to be friends, right? Although starting out on shaky ground (Lorde lambasted Swift in an interview for promoting an unattainable image for girls, a statement she soon back-peddled on publically) today, their friendship goes from strength-to-strength, with the social media stream to prove it!
“We’re on each others team,” Taylor has said, with Lorde admitting that although they are different, “I think the cool thing about Taylor is she is pretty willing to go a lot of places with music."
From shopping in New York, to baking in Taylor’s Rhode Island kitchen, owning the red carpet at awards ceremonies and even celebrating Taylor’s 24th birthday in Melbourne, these two twenty-something’s are always in harmony.
4. The Aussie Posse: Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts
Bikini’s brought these BFF’s together, when they first met auditioning for the same bikini ad as teenagers in Australia! Their first creative casting however, turned out to be 1991 coming of age film 'Flirting' and from there, the years have – and movie credits may have rolled on – but the friendship has remained on solid ground.
An impressive 24 years later, Nicole says the two both share “picky” tastes, which may explain their constantly awe-inspiring choices sartorially, as well as in suitors and silver screen roles! Although Nicole’s fame trajectory was much faster than Naomi’s, after more than two decades sharing the limelight Nicole says they remain "very, very good friends and have maintained that through so many things.”
5. The Funny Girls: Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz
It’s the early 1990's, and a teenage waitress with a bad-girl reputation serves an aspiring model with stars in her eyes at an LA coffee house. Fast-forward a few decades and they blossom into two of the world's most powerful and playful actresses – and best buds. “She was friendly and goofy and really nice,” Drew has recalled recently in an interview of her first meeting with Cameron. “So when we got older and our lives had taken very different directions, I called her up and said, 'I have this amazing idea. I know exactly how I wanna do it. It's 'Charlie's Angels'. Come play with me!' And she said yes! And then we just went on some of the best years of our lives."
“She is one big heart,” Cameron has counter-gushed. “She doesn't even wear it on her sleeve; it's like she is just a heart."
Today, newly married Cameron and mother-of-two Drew, consider each other family. “I've always felt like she's my big sister, but at the same time I know that sometimes I'm wiser and a bit less naive than she is!” Drew has quipped.
