This Summer's Top Fashion Tips

It's that time of year again - time to makeover your wardrobe and start planning your sassiest summer outfits!

Whether it involves a complete clothing overhaul, choosing a few key items to buy or simply selecting a new colour scheme for the season, cleaning out your closet can help you put your best fashion foot forward.

Take your cues from Paris Fashion Week, which recently wrapped up after showing some exciting new trends. The recent influx of metallic items into the Australian fashion market will continue, and summer is a great time to show of your shiniest items. Take things up a notch by adding brocade and embroidery for a luxe take on the trend.

Nautical styling has been everywhere recently, and it doesn't look likely to go away soon. Stripes in all shades of red, blue, white and black will remain popular this season, so feel free to recycle pieces from other seasons.

This look works especially well with crisp white accents. Consider teaming a striped top with bright white shorts and a wedge heel or jeweled sandal. Just try not to get too carried away with the theme - while it may be tempting to add a sailor hat and anchor jewellery, it might tip your outfit over the edge from fabulous to tragic.

In a refreshing twist, boyfriend styling will take centre stage this summer, with shirt dresses shining as a staple. While feminine dresses and skirts will always be popular, those looking for something a bit different will find a range of more masculine-inspired options to choose from.

If you don't have the time or budget to give your wardrobe a complete overhaul, you could start with your makeup instead. Nothing says summer like clean, glowing skin, a slick of mascara and a bright pink or coral lip.
