The Top 3 Fashion Trends to Adopt this Spring

Want to be ahead of the international trends? Here’s what’s coming in – and going out – of fashion.

The recent Google Fashion Report results are in, and it’s easy to see what will be in and out of fashion this season. Three key trends are showing no sign of slowing, and the celebrities that are wearing them are also proving perennially popular.

Kylie Jenner and Alexa Chung have a high ranking in fashion searches in the UK, while the Jenner sisters jostle for popularity with fellow-it girl Olivia Palermo in the States.

Globally, people are looking to It Girl Gigi Hadid for fashion leads, while simultaneously admiring the ever-elegant Michelle Obama.

Here are the three most-searched styles you need to adopt this spring.

1. The Bomber Jacket

The weather may be warming up but an unlikely trend is swarming shelves. If you need an all-purpose jacket, great for both chic nights out, days in the office or casual brunches, nothing is more 'in' than the bomber jacket. In a day and age where androgynous attire is becoming mainstream, the Google Fashion Report shows a steady incline in chic military searches – for both men and women.

Top Tip: As the weather heats up, go for more lightweight styles – sans padding – in brighter colours and lots of sheen. Wear them with a cute spring dress and ankle boots or your daily denim of choice.

2. Off-The-Shoulder

Shoulders are having their moment in the sun with tops and dresses trending thanks to searches based on the looks of Michelle Obama through to Kendall Jenner. Let's be honest, the shoulders are rarely a problem area - which means this is a great trend for everyone! If you want to cover the entire arm, there are some lovely, billowing long-sleeve styles, and frill detail is also divine for more relaxed day wear. The evening standard is a more linear cut across the décolletage, with long dresses proving the perfect way to wear this popular trend.

Top Tip: The report also found a lot of people are searching for 'maternity' off-the-shoulder styles. So expect to see a lot of highly stylish mummas!

3. Romper/Jumpsuit

The search for the romper (aka jumpsuit or playsuit) soared in the UK back in 2013, with the US catching up two years later and continuing to grow. The popularity has been put down to the functionality of the style for all ages, particularly for kids and teens. An across-the-board love of jumpsuits could also be thanks to the rise in festival fashion, where rompers are uniform. Celebrity influencers of the trend include Taylor Swift, Kylie Jenner and Kate Hudson. But the most searched romper/jumpsuit wearer was Bethany Mota, a YouTube creator who has made history as the first non-designer to prove more popular in Google searches for this particular style than a designer, further showing the massive and growing cultural presence of online fashion influencers.

Top Tip: Rompers and jumpsuits are the all-in-one outfit that can be slipped on in seconds, which the Fashion Report found was a big bonus for the time-poor women. Pair the item with a singlet or simple t-shirt for daywear or opt for a strapless number belted with a silk scarf for the evening.
