After months of anticipation, the official trailer for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig has finally been released!
The near three minute-long trailer has Twitter in a tizzy after the long-awaited preview hit the web.
It’s been three decades since the original Ghostbusters flick starring Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd became a cult sensation and the trailer seems to be polarising fans with the choice of an all-female cast.
The film’s director and co-writer Paul Freig, who is renowned for feminising funny with knockout blockbusters like Bridesmaids, Spy and The Heat, opted for a reboot rather than a sequel, and defended his choice of cast at an exclusive trailer launch this week.
“The first movie worked because it had four of the funniest people, and I just wanted the funniest people. These women are the funniest people," he said.
We couldn't agree more! Saturday Night Live regulars Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones inject a little newness to the celebrated cast, while Hollywood heartthrob Chris Hemsworth flips the stereotype playing the girls’ receptionist.
With a hilarious all-girl cast, applauded director and Chris Hemsworth – what’s not to love? The film is set for an Australian release later this year, and we can't wait!
