The most stunning dresses on the Oscars red carpet

See what your favourite stars are wearing to the 89th Academy Awards.

The stars have turned it on for this year's Academy Awards, and while we can't wait to celebrate this year's incredible achievements in film, first thing's first: the red carpet arrivals.

Find out what Meryl, Viola and Emma are wearing to Hollywood's biggest night, and follow our live red carpet updates below.

Emma Stone is in the house! The La La Land actress is a favourite to win tonight's Best Actress gong, and a gold, tasselled gown.

Viola Davis has arrived to accept her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress! Well, not yet, but she's the odds on favourite to sweep the category! With a Tony and a couple of Emmy awards under her belt, winning an Oscar would put Viola firmly in the race for EGOT status.

Also in red, Loving star and Best Actress nominee, Ruth Negga, looks stunning in custom-made Valentino. The Irish-Ethiopian beauty is also donning a ACLU - American Civil Liberties Union - blue ribbon, to protect individual rights in the US.

Fellow Best Actress nominees, Isabelle Huppert and Taraji P Henson epitomised glam with some retro styles. Isabelle glided down the red carpet like a shining beacon of style - with some badass ear bling - while Taraji looked very Marilyn Monroe or Sophia Loren in a off-the-shoulder velvet gown.

Along with Taraji, the rest of the cast of Hidden Figures are slowly making their way down the carpet. Up next: Octavia Spencer in Marchesa, Janelle Monae in Elie Saab and Kirsten Dunst in Dior.

Best Supporting Actress nominees Michelle Williams, Nicole Kidman, and Naomie Harris all brought their own edge to the red carpet this year.

Meanwhile other big stars Scarlett Johansson, Priyanka Chopra, Alicia Vikander and last year's Best Actress winner, Brie Larson arrived to the celebrations.

Hollywood's most famous couples are starting to arrive, namely Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake and John Legend and Chrissy Teigen.

Aussie Theresa Palmer is celebrating the success of her film Hacksaw Ridge, and strutted the red carpet in silver. Meanwhile, Karlie Kloss looked stauesque in a crisp, Stella McCartney gown and Emma Roberts wore a "sustainable" recycled Armani Prive gown.

Presenting tonight is 20-year-old Hailee Steinfeld. She may be young, but Hailee was nominated for an Academy Award back in 2010 for her role in True Grit

Dakota Johnson is also on the red carpet in a marvelously retro gold gown.
