Tangerine lips, aqua-blue eyes and hot pink nails - the future's bright in beauty. High summer is the perfect time to pack a punch with eye-popping colours before we all return to dark smoky eyes and berry lips for winter. The ’80s have made a huge comeback, and celebrities like Lady Gaga and Rihanna have put bold colours back on the beauty map. But forget fluoro, think acid pastels like sky blue, sherbet lemon and flamingo pink to put you in the holiday mood. But to avoid looking like an over-experimental teenager, choose your candy colours carefully.
"Keep everything else neutral - you just need one sweep of bold colour," says make-up artist Annabel Jardella."As a rule, it's eyes or lips - not both! Always go for a matte look with brights and avoid gloss." Don't stay in the beauty shade this summer, reach for those sunny rainbow brights. We show you how to make your colour pop!
By keeping the rest of your face natural, you draw all the attention on your perfect pout. Avoid gimmicky shades like lavender and blue, and stick to warm tones that will complement golden summer skin.
"For lips, bright orange or fuchsia pink, as worn by UK pop diva Cheryl Cole, flatter most skin tones and eyes," Jardella suggests."Use a lip liner and a good flat and rounded lip brush for precision. A matte lipstick that's dryish in texture will also give good results. Start by drawing the lip line, then blend inwards with the brush. Add colour and lastly a touch of clear gloss to soften the look."

If you're thinking of dabbling in punchy purple, make-up artist Jemma Kidd advises: "Purple suits most eye colours, however if you have dark circles under the eyes make sure they are well concealed as purple eye shadows will accentuate them."If you don't want to colour the whole lid, simply draw along the upper lash line using a bold colour and then add lashings of black mascara to the top and bottom lashes to tone down the brightness."
