Fashionista Renee Bargh says looking chic and sophisticated poolside or at the beach can be a tricky. Here are some of her top tips for tackling the challenge!
This summer, I’m thrilled to be working with Vibe Hotels as the ambassador for the gorgeous Summer Vibe Towel!
Since moving on from my beloved role as a Channel [V] VJ, I’m now based in L.A. and have just taken up a new role presenting for one of the most popular celebrity entertainment shows, Extra.
When I get precious downtime, my favourite thing in the world is relaxing poolside with my best friends. In L.A. everyone is addicted to hanging out at hotel pools on the weekends. A few cocktails, a DJ and some of L.A.’s best fashion on show – what more could a girl ask for? Back at home, the rooftop pool at Vibe Hotel Rushcutters is one of my personal favourites.
Looking chic and sophisticated poolside or at the beach can be a tricky. Here are some of my top tips with you for tackling the challenge!
1. Fake it
A tan will make you look and feel like summer instantly. A spray tan is a much healthier option than baking in the sun and more convenient Schedule your appointment the day before jetting off on summer holidays or just a trip to your local beach and you’re set!
2. Leave something to the imagination
Getting into a bikini for the first time is a scary thought, even for many of the gorgeous celebs I interview. Invest in cover up that will make you feel sexy and not over exposed like a cape, loose dress, harem pants or a sarong. It’ll also prove useful for dashing from beach to shop for ice cream or from your hotel room to the pool. One of my favourite pieces from the Summer Vibe photo shoot was a netted bohemian cape by Seafolly in a natural sand shade.
3. Play with your look
There are a lot of different looks in fashion this season: florals, brights, boho, and of course the 90s revival. Summer is the perfect time to ditch boring black for something fun and flirty. Rock harem pants and strands of long beads with a floral bikini one day and a polkadot one piece under a crochet dress the next. They say a change is as good as a holiday, so even if you’re chilling at home this summer a new beach look will have you feeling refreshed in no time.
One of the simplest ways to lift your look instantly is to add the right extras. If you can’t stretch your budget to a new cozzie this season, you can still make your look current by adding some inexpensive accessories. I always like to focus on one area at a time: a strand of amazing beads some big bangles or a cocktail ring will make your look pop. Don’t forget to top it off with the ABCs of poolside glamour: sunnies, a pedicure, a hat, sun cream and a luxurious beach towel.
5. Make your beach bag work
An oversised beach bag is perfect for carrying your book, iPhone, water, sun cream and beach towel. Avoid the temptation to throw everything into an old green bag, choose something which will work from beach to bar. Don’t forget to take some bronzer, Moroccan Oil and embellished flats to glam up your look after a hard day of relaxation!
