Spring Bling: Gorgeous Wedding Ring Trends

Even your engagement ring is subject to the ebb and flow of fashion trends! Find out what's in right now.

The 20th Century is a fine example of the vast array of ring designs to come and go: from the height of simplicity in the 1910s, to the more intricate styles of the 1930s, and onto the revival of coloured stones in the 1970s.

We spoke to the women sisters Lauren and Alana behind Sydney-based jeweller, Moi Moi Fine Jewellery, for their tips on the biggest engagement ring trends right now:

  • Apparently, bigger is still better!

This won't surprise many women, but the big engagement ring actually only returned to mainstream style quite recently. While huge, flashy diamonds were once reserved for the rich and famous (ahem, Mariah Carey), we mortals are now also seeking big rings - but for less cash!

  • Rose Gold

If the latest iPhone models and interior design trends are anything to go by, there’s no question around the rising popularity of rose gold! The wedding industry is no exception, as couples continue to look to this beautiful metal-mix for their engagement rings.

Although two-tone rings have been around for some time, just rose gold has gained widespread popularity recently, further fuelled by the fact it suits all skin tones!

  • Unique wedding bands

Mixing a classic engagement ring with a quirky wedding band has become very popular for many brides-to-be. Maybe this trend is thanks to Mila Kunis' $120 Etsy wedding band, but regardless of the trend's origin, a unique band is a must-have for couples who want their ring to be a personal expression.

  • Step cuts

Step cuts are back - and they’re back in force! These vintage-style rings are making waves thanks to Pippa Middleton’s Asscher cut diamond centre stone. Hello, glamour!

  • Halo desings

The Halo trend has been popular for a few years now, and it shows no sign of slowing down, according to Lauren and Alana. It involves a centre diamond or other precious stone, surrounded by a "halo" of smaller ones.
