Spanx Your Man into Shape!

Aussie men, rejoice! The answer to your flabby gut, borne of late-night Domino’s deals and slabs of VB, has finally arrived. Sarah Blaklely’s Spanx range has been helping men in the US conceal their saggy bellies for years, and now the revolutionary garments have hit Australian shores.

Spanx for men represents the ultimate in gut-busting technology, dubbed ‘shapewear’ in the States, and will soon be helping Australian men to appear a little more like a six pack and a little less like a keg.

Recent surveys have revealed that a whopping 90% of men wish they had a firmer, flatter stomach. And it’s not just the blokes; the ladies also want to see their men a little more chopped and a little less Chopper. 75% of ladies interviewed said they’d like a more toned torso to curl up next to at night.

The technology behind this new tummy-tightening initiative hasn’t been developed overnight, either. Chief Spanx-er Sarah Blakely said “we applied 10 years of knowledge and expertise in compression fabrics and transforming the body to this first-of-its-kind collection for men”, calling Spanx’s new masculine range “the new standard in men’s undergarments”.

The new garments don’t look half bad. As seen in the image, they make a real difference on the appearance of the tummy. The “muffin-top” effect (where love handles or paunches of flab hang over the side of the belt, giving the appearance of the top of a muffin) is genuinely greatly reduced, giving the wearer the appearance of a flatter, firmer physique.

Celebs such as Steve Carrell and comedian Jimmy Fallon have already spoken of their admiration for the range in the US, and the same trend is expected in Australia. The range consists of a Cotton Compression Undershirt, a Zoned Performance Undershirt, and Cotton Comfort Underwear, and is available already in David Jones.

Blakely, who is known for personally styling women such as Oprah Winfrey and Gwyneth Paltrow, claimed that “the men in my life (and in Hollywood) have been asking me to make Spanx for men for years, so I was inspired to create comfortable and powerful undershirts that provide instant gratification without gimmicks. It’s your favourite T-shirt without your least favourite part... love handles”.

So, it seems, our run is over. For many years, us ladies have gotten away with technology and equipment that naturally boosts the gifts we already had. Men, on the other hand, have historically had to display what they got, with less articles in the market out there for men to hide their undesirable parts.

Now, however, men will be able to completely mask their paunchy bellies, making them seem all the more attractive when out in public, but providing us with a nasty shock when the clothes come off and the truth comes out! Men, it seems, have levelled the playing field.
