Shop this Season's Hottest Swimwear Trend: The One-Piece

Our fashion and beauty expert, Emma Bangay, has some great tips for shopping this season's hottest swimsuit trend.

It would seem bikinis have had their day in the sun! This summer, one-pieces are the only way to go, both sea and pool side. Flattering and fashion-forward, they are the style that women around the world are embracing. Here are some tips to help find the best style for you.

Curves Ahead

We love a celebrity with curves, and they are celebrated in summer with the likes of Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, and Iggy Azalea sporting one-piece styles.

If you are a pear-shaped figure, it’s all about finding balance with your swimsuit. A light frill around the leg or – if you’re brave and bold – a higher cut on the hip can elongate the leg while still offering coverage around the derriere. The perfect compliment to a curvy bottom is a focus on the bosom, so go with a plunging neckline or a vertical stripe to create a leaner look around the torso.

Bigger Bust

No matter how good you look on the beach, if your cup runneth over and isn't supported, you’re going to be very uncomfortable! Ensure your one-piece has some built-in support – either with cuts or an internal tank or boning.

Keep the area streamlined to avoid making your big chest look bigger (unless that is your intention!) and thicker straps are always a smart option for lift. Another flattering aesthetic is coloured piping to define the area from the rest of the torso.

Another cute idea to get your back support while remaining on-trend is to go with a bikini support bra, a neoprene, zip-front maillot, or even a long-sleeve one-piece style. Then, you can accentuate the cleavage without having to worry about a lack of back support on your swimsuit.

Authentically Athletic

If you have a smaller chest and narrow hips - you’re in luck! Many one-piece swimsuits are perfect for your proportions. If you want to create more interest around parts of your body, go with a suit that has some embellishment, horizontal stripe, detailing or mixed patterns. You can also find loads of styles with padded internal bras, or you could also go with a strapless style for a Riviera-inspired look.

Mummy Tummy

While it's worth mentioning a lot of women (and men!) don't have the popular Victoria's Secret tummy, we also know many women, ourselves included, still want to still look their best at the beach! For a flattering style, opt for a reinforced midsection style or even a tankini that combines a singlet-style top and high-waisted pants. Gathering, ruching, and shirring is also a dream for this type of figure and even dark colour-blocking around the mid-section can pull focus off that area and create a cinched-in effect.
