Shop Smart for Winter

Style Expert, Sophie Hart, shows you how to update your wardrobe with the new season trends.

Every year trends come, and trends go. There is a smart way of shopping to update your winter wardrobe with a few on trend pieces that will last you more than one season.

Leather is a hot look this season. From top to bottom. Investing in leather lasts a lifetime and it’s is easy to pair with most of the items in your wardrobe. From leather low slung pants, skinny leg pants, hats, jackets – it all goes this season. Try Sass&Bide, Witchery and Winston Wolfe.

A good anorak and trench coat are the perfect addition to your wardrobe. Most Australians are in denial when Winter rolls around, holding on to the warmer months by braving the cold with skirts sans stockings and little shorts, so layering with an anorak or trench coat makes it easy. Both items will become staple pieces of your wardrobe as most last seasonal trends. They’re light, comfortable and provide protection from those tricky wind tunnels. Throw them off when enjoying your coffee in the sun. Try Country Road for some great street style urban Anoraks and TopShop for trench coats.

Denim – it’s essential. This winter we are seeing a variation of the boyfriend jean this season, with the birth of the low-slung pant – championed by Australian brand Bassike. These are great if you can pull them off – if not, try a pair of relaxed fit in soft denim by Current/Elliot and JBrand - two of my faves.

Last but not least – the shoe. An ankle boot is an absolute must have for winter. They are also transeasonal. This season you can find a style to match any occasion – thick heeled, high or low heeled. From leather to suede and printed or studded, there are no excuses. Some of my favourites are Acne, Rag&Bone, Zara, Senso.
