Shannen Doherty Undergoes First Radiation Treatment

Shannen Doherty continues to inspire through her battle against cancer.

After months of chemotherapy, Shannen Doherty is taking her fight against breast cancer to the next level by commencing radiation treatment.

The actress, who has been documenting her cancer journey on Instagram, revealed her thoughts on the "scary" hospital visit.

"First day of radiation treatment. I look like I'm about to make a run for it which is accurate," she wrote on Instagram.

"Radiation is frightening to me. Something about not being able to see the laser, see the treatment and having this machine moving around you just scares me. I'm sure I'll get used to it but right now... I hate it."

Shannen had a single mastectomy in May but later discovered the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes.

She has been undergoing rounds of chemotherapy since her diagnosis last year, but has only just begun radiation.

"I had breast cancer that spread to the lymph nodes, and from one of my surgeries we discovered that some of the cancer cells might have actually gone out of the lymph nodes," Shannen told Entertainment Tonight in August. "So for that reason, we are doing chemo, and then after chemo, I'll do radiation."

Last week, she posted another confessional photo of the mapping for her radiation treatment, saying "this scared me so much."

"Sometimes, you just get sick of being poked. And that's ok. I cried. I felt sorry for myself for a minute. Then stopped and reminded myself of how lucky I am," she said.

Her many famous friends, including Sarah Michelle Gellar and Chelsea Handler, continue to praise Shannen for her strength.
