The Golden Globes nominations were announced overnight, celebrating the finest big and small screen entertainment of the year. 

Newcomer, Westworld, received due recognition with a nod in the Best TV Drama category, and nominations for actresses Thandie Newton and Evan Rachel Wood. 

Meanwhile, on the big screen, the hotly-anticipated La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, received a total of seven nominations - including one each for its stars.

Representing Australia, Mel Gibson received two noms for his directorial return, Hacksaw Ridge, as well as a nod for its star, Andrew Garfield. 

Nicole Kidman is up for a Best Supporting Actress for the film Lion, while Joel Edgerton is up for Best Actor in a Drama for the film Loving.
