Real Wedding: Samantha and Steven

Samantha Curtis and Steven Arninson Venue: Aria Restaurant, Sydney Photography: Narida McMurray Samantha, 31, and Steven, 35, met through mutual friends and started dating five years later. Then, on New Year’s Eve 2008, Steven surprised his girl with a proposal on the balcony of their home. The result was a stylish wedding celebration one year on at Aria Restaurant overlooking stunning Sydney Harbour.

Samantha says her look was loosely based on Audrey Hepburn in the film Funny Face. She decided upon a knee length silk faille dress with full skirt by legendary designer Oscar de la Renta. ”As soon as I saw the dress in a magazine, I was fairly certain it would be the one, Samantha explains. I tried it on along with two other dresses of very different styles and knew that the short dress was for me'

The bride slipped into a pair of Christian Louboutin peep-toe heels for the big day. Wearing a short dress, I needed spectacular shoes, says Samantha, who also wore a chic vintage hairpiece in place of a veil. Her Maid of Honour Lara wore a navy-and-white zigzag striped Diane von Furstenberg dress.

Steven wore a Ralph Lauren jacket and shirt, and Tommy Hilfiger trousers. “We wanted something fun and different,’ says Samantha. We were lucky enough to find the perfect blue-and-white striped seersucker jacket by chance and it wasn’t hard to find white pants and a navy shirt to match”.

The couple celebrated their marriage with 50 of their closest friends and family at Aria Restaurant at East Circular Quay in Sydney. Guests were served a selection of canapes immediately after the ceremony followed by a delicious, three-course sit-down dinner. Stationery for the day was from Le Bonbon and featured a navy-and-white striped border consistent with the couple’s theme

“Our theme was blue and white stripes, which featured on the ribbons around our flowers and the men’s button holes,” says Samantha. The bouquets contained white hydrangeas, David Austin roses, lisianthi, freesias and snow berries. And the terrace where the ceremony was held was decorated with four large urns of white hydrangeas”.
